Electric Strike Installation on Aluminum Doors: Austin Field Example

An electric strike can add controlled entry to an aluminum storefront door while retaining the door's mechanical exit hardware. In this Austin-area installation, we used an HES 5000C strike and a template to lay out the frame before cutting.

Why the frame preparation matters

Small layout errors can leave a strike misaligned with the latch. We confirm the door and latch operation, check frame clearances, secure the manufacturer's template, and use an appropriate router and cutting tools for the opening. After mounting, we test the strike with the door open and closed, including a power-loss check.

Plan the whole door

The strike must be compatible with the existing latch and door hardware. We also check that occupants can exit freely, that the mechanical key still provides any required emergency entry, and that door-position monitoring reports forced or propped doors. Lock selection and fire-alarm interfaces depend on the opening and local authority requirements.
