Austin Security Company vs. Central Monitoring Station: Who Does What?
An Austin security company and a professional alarm monitoring center may be two different organizations. Knowing who handles each job makes it easier to compare providers and get help when something goes wrong.
The local security company's job
The local dealer assesses the building, designs and installs the system, programs zones and communicators, tests signals, explains the service terms and returns for technical work. It should also identify who updates user codes, app access and the emergency call list.
The monitoring center's job
A central station receives the programmed alarm, trouble or supervisory signals and follows the account's instructions and applicable procedures. That may include verification calls, contacting responsible people or requesting emergency response. It does not replace the local technician who can diagnose a failing contact, communicator or battery.
Avenger Security provides local installation and service and uses a UL-listed central station for professional monitoring. No provider can guarantee a police or fire response time; the appropriate agency controls its dispatch and arrival.
Questions to ask before activation
- Which company is licensed to install and service my system?
- Which central station receives signals, and what events will it receive?
- Who maintains the call list and verification instructions?
- What communication path and backup power are included?
- What are the monthly, activation and service charges?
- Who handles permit information for my jurisdiction?
For Austin homes, standard Avenger Security examples are $19.99 per month for compatible basic monitoring and $29.99 for compatible Alarm.com interactive service. Commercial and fire monitoring require their own equipment and service review. We do not require a long-term monitoring contract; standard cancellation terms include 90 days' notice.
